She wrote and edited groundbreaking books and articles on narrative theory and on Dostoevsky's works, including Dostoevsky in Context, Surprised by Shame, Literary Journals in Imperial Russia, and Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment": A Reader's Guide.
