S.D. Gupta is a Distinguished Professor and Chairman, IIHMR University. He was Director, Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), and the first President of IIHMR University. He is Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, the USA, and Visiting Professor at University of Chester, the UK. He has done pioneering work of creating and establishing the new discipline of health management and promoting research in health policy and health systems and programs. Dr. Gupta is a Public Health Expert with a distinguished academic and research career. He obtained his M.D. (PSM) from India and Ph.D. (Epidemiology) from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He has been conferred Fellowship of National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), India, for his outstanding contribution to the field of public health. He is a Fellow of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, Indian Public Health Association, and a Long-term Member of the International Epidemiological Association. He has published several research papers and reports. He has been associated in various capacities with several national and international research and academic organizations. He has chaired several scientific and other committees and worked as temporary advisor to WHO. He has served as Member of the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund. He was President, WHO's South-East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network (SEAPHEIN).
