Social Influence on Adoption Decisions

ENGLISHComprised of two distinct empirical studies this dissertation investigates how social situations impact individual adoption decisions. The first study draws on extant literature on the adoption decision process to show that the influence exerted on individuals by their social networks impacts distinct outcomes of each phase of the individual decision process.The second study investigates how the consumption of online reviews impacts individual purchase intentions. Findings of both studies show that there is a significant influence present in adoption decisions. However, the specific impact is differentiated by the proposed phases of the adoption process.DEUTSCHDie vorliegende Dissertation besteht aus zwei getrennten empirischen Studien, die jeweils untersuchen, wie soziale Situationen individuelle Adoptionsentscheidungen beeinflussen.Die erste Studie baut auf bestehende Forschung zum Adoptionsprozess auf und zeigt wie soziale Einflüsse spezifische Ergebnisse einzelner Phasen des Adoptionsprozesses determinieren. Die zweite Studie untersucht, wie das Lesen von Onlinerezensionen individuelle Adoptionsentscheidungen beeinflusst. Die Ergebnisse beider Studien zeigen, dass soziale Einflüsse auf Adoptionsentscheidungen wirken. Die Auswirkungen sind jedoch unterschiedlich, je nach Phase des Adoptionsprozesses.
